Grosgrain ribbons for garments
What is a grosgrain ribbon?
Grosgrain ribbon is a type of ribbon with a taffeta weave, which has large transverse ribs and a grainy appearance. The term is derived from the French ‘gros gram’, which meant coarse fabric in the 16th century. Similar in appearance to Petersham tape, grosgrain is not woven in the same way and is much stronger.
Elastic or rigid, this very strong ribbon is used in sewing as a hat band, in belts, edgings and clothing hems. Very practical to use, this rustic ribbon is also popular for creative hobbies and scrapbooking.
Our expertise in creating grosgrain
Our ribbons are woven in France, in our production workshop in Saint-Chamond. We create grosgrain in cotton, polyester or nylon, plain or multicoloured. Our expertise is validated by Oeko-Tex® standard 100 and ISO 9001 certification, and draws on a ribbon-making tradition that dates back to the 19th century.
The vast choice of colours available in the different materials allows us to create made-to-measure grosgrain ribbon that will fit in perfectly with any sewing or fashion accessory project.
Our ribbons can be supplied on reels or in pads, depending on your requirements. We have a stock of standard ribbon in our warehouse, and we can quickly manufacture any model of ribbon to meet specific requirements, in the width and colour of your choice.
We also manufacture a full range of elastic ribbons for sewing and lingerie, to supply all fashion designers with the raw material they need.
